Alumni in Focus

Alumni event co-hosted by ILEA Gaborone and U.S Embassy Lilongwe, Malawi.

Malawi

This is another successful Alumni event co-hosted by ILEA Gaborone and U.S Embassy Lilongwe, Malawi. The theme of the event was Wildlife Trafficking; ILEA Gaborone has trained delegates from every region in Malawi. This is a testament to the strong partnership that the Malawi government shares with both the United States and Botswana governments. The alumni discussed their personal experiences in the world of work and emphasized how the skills they had acquired at ILEA Gaborone has helped them in good stead in pursuing their careers and their line of duty. Most importantly keynote discussion was that Alumni need to forge relationships and maintain them, this is through their instructors and their fellow Alumni across Africa and the globe.
We’ve seen the tangible results of this collaboration in many ways, from disrupting and arresting wildlife traffickers, this was greatly presented by Superintendent Wellington Chindzakazi who is the Head of the Malawi Police Service Wildlife & Environmental Crime Investigation Unit. This event was a celebration of a continuous collaboration to advance our mission and strive to strengthen our existing partnerships with our Alumni network, while seeking new opportunities to work together for a safer region and more secure world, for example, police prosecutors may get to know CID investigators, or judges, and better understand each agency’s role in furthering law enforcement efforts and access to justice in Malawi.
Amongst dignitaries were: Amy Diaz - CDA (U.S Embassy, Malawi), Obencera Mogasera - Acting Ambassador (South African High Commission), Hon. Jean Sendeza (Guest Speaker) - Minister of Homeland Security, Hon. Titus Mvalo - Minister of Justice, John Biziwick - Director General of Malawi Revenue Authority and Brigadier Charles Kalumo (retired) - Director General for Department of Immigration & Citizen Services.
